Inner Dragons, Demons, Bedtime Stories, and A Powerful Question
Children do not have enough information to capture the meaning of many things that are going on around them and yet they can be very simple in their wisdom. They get excited over loose teeth, birthdays, rain falling and waking up with messy hair just means you didn’t have to check your fitbit to see if you slept well you just know it somehow. When children have a nightmare they naturally run to the bedside of their grown ups (unless it is a very unsafe environment) and they get reassurance that the whole thing was a bad dream.
Adults are more complicated.
Inner dragons and demons develop when the mind can’t tell the difference between the nightmare and the day time experience. The bad feelings and experiences just stay with you long after you have been awake. Inner dragons and demons are beliefs built from years of lies and other negative programming that has etched its strength on your mind until you don’t question it. It just is.
Bedtime stories help little children to sleep well and to have a routine that feels safe and happy. Consistent bedtime stories can be a way to teach principles and your moral compass to those you love. If bedtime stories help children to feel better and to feel inner peace and happiness than grown ups can also benefit from a new story in their lives.
Here is a bedtime story for you.
Once upon a time there was a smart, funny, little soul who came to earth to grow and learn and live. This happy, little, trusting soul was like a new seed ready to sprout. Like all seeds it was planted in the dark and with the magic of the womb of mother earth and the light blessing of father sky it was touched and it began to find it’s way as it wiggled out of the darkness and sprouted a hope filled leaf into the sunshine. This must be it the little seed thought. But alas it was only the beginning.
The seed grew and more leaves unfolded. Weeds bullied the new plant and tried to take its source away and leave it without the light, the water, the love, and the reaching that plants need to grow to their potential. The weather at times did not cooperate either and the seedling felt pretty slapped about and blown in the wind. It began to wonder if it would ever bear fruit.
In time the discouraged plant found its way to be a bigger plant and then buds appeared and finally little nobs of what would become its potential to bear the fruit of its kind.
All plants grow something. All life grows something. It will challenge you and me and it will cause us to face storms and challenges but remember like the plant you too are wired for life. You are wired and destined for the great fruit that is within you. We often know the fruit is there because it is the thing we struggle with. You are smart, funny and are here to grow. Trust and know that when you are in the dark you have just been planted and there will be weather and obstacles and yet those buds of the future will appear.
I end all of my stories happily ever after. Now you must decide what story you want to tell.
What dragons you must slay. What demons you will cast out. You are more powerful than you believe.
You must write the ending today and let the time between now and then unfold.
One powerful question that can help you in the storytelling process but first please declare this true statement: I am a child of God, I am a child of the Universe and I am of divine origin. I am made from the dust but formed in the image of God so I have the birthright to ask this question: What seed of purpose is planted in me? Listen for the wisdom of the still small whisper that is in each of us to show us the way. Now tell your story boldly and make it the way you want it to be!
Life your daydream and awaken from the nightmare of inner conflict.
Blessings,
